Perfect Primal Pizza Crust- YUMMY!
The other night I happened to be looking through some recipes on Mark's Daily Apple when I found a video describing the perfect primal pizza crust. I had tried making a grain free pizza crust using almond meal, but it didn't turn out very good, so I was excited to try this recipe. The crust is made of eggplant, grated parmesan cheese, and an egg. Here is the link to the recipe. Scroll down past the video to see the recipe.

Warm up
WOD
"Helen"
3 rounds of
2 laps
21 KB swings- 35 lbs.
12 pull ups
Time- 12:30ish
Awesome WOD for me even though I was only able to get at most 4 pull ups in a row. My arms were feeling tired from all the lifting earlier in the week. Still loved this WOD thought. I beat one of our top girls, but I heard she was having a bad day. Still...it felt good! I love WODs with no heavy weights!

Pull Ups
It's me doing pull ups! These are called kipping pull ups where you are allowed to use momentum to help get yourself up to the bar. It took me about about a year to be able to do more than one at a time. When I first began CrossFit I couldn't even do one. Now I can do about 8 at a time before my hands start to hurt. I did 100 pull ups like this in a workout just the other day! I was so proud of myself. :)
December 3. 2010
Work Out:
CrossFit
Warm up with 3 rounds of 10 air squats, 10 sit ups, 40 jumping jacks
WOD
4 rounds of
40 lunge steps with 25 lb KB and 20 lb dumbell
30 box jumps- 20 inch box
20 KB swings- 35 lbs.
Uneven farmer's carry to the corner of the building- 35 lb KB and 30 lb dumbell
Time- 29:56
I tried a few lunges with the 35 lb KB and 30 lb dumbell before the workout started, but it was tough. I knew there was no way I was going to make it through with those weights, so I dropped down for the lunges. My goal was to finish in under 30 minutes and I really had to hustle on the last bit of the farmer's walk to get it. I was glad that I did!
Food Log:
Breakfast- half a glass of almond milk with sugar free nesquik
Breakfast- 2 scrambled eggs and 3 pieces of bacon
Snack- a few carrots
Lunch- chili and a few carrots
Snack- half a banana
Dinner- Philly Cheesesteak on wheat with bell peppers and jalapenos and pepperjack cheese, potato chips, half a chocolate chip cookie
I was planning to make dinner for myself, but my mom brought me Subway. Maddie ordered my sandwich for me and got it right, so I had to eat it. She was so proud of herself for getting it right! Oh well, at least I didn't have to make dinner and clean up my mess!

Hurting Knee
4 things that might be causing my bursitis to flare up:
1. My new shoes.
2. The deadlifts we did on Nov. 15.
3. My horrible diet for the last month.
4. All of the above contributing to the problem.
Either way it hurts and I don’t want it to hurt anymore, so I have a plan.
My plan is to do the following:
Get the inserts into my shoes right away.
Cut out the grains.
Possibly go to the doctor for anti inflammatories.
***A friend reminded me about taking fish oil to reduce inflammation and low and behold, I think it actully might've worked! Before I could even implent my plan I realized my knee was feeling pretty good today and it just so happens I restarted fish oil just the other day! Hmmmm...makes me wonder if there is something to the fish oil thing! I thought for sure it would be killing me today with all that running I did yesterday, but nope. I'm still going to try to get the inserts in and cut out the grains, though!

Kelly Kicked My Butt!
So my workout on Thursday was horrible. I was hoping to finish under 35 minutes, but I knew midway through that that was not going to happen. I changed my goal to 40 minutes, but I didn't make that either! :(
There are a few possible reasons why it went so badly.
1. I ate too much before class! I felt like I was going to puke the whole time and I could feel the pizza sitting in my stomach just waiting to come up. Thank goodness it didn't though!
2. I didn't have enough fruit. I normally eat some fruit during the day, but I'm trying to cut back because of the sugar in it. Maybe I didn't have the energy I normally do.
3. I suck at wall ball. Click on the link to see what wall ball is. The video shows them throwing to a 9 foot target, we throw to a 10 foot target. That combined with box jumps and running could've just been too much for my poor weak legs!
Last time I did Kelly was back in January. Instead of running we rowed 250 meters and I used a 16 inch box and a 10 lb. ball. On the box jumps I did mostly jumps the first thre rounds, then mostly step ups with a few jumps the last 2 rounds. My time was around 33 minutes.

Sweet Potato Muffins
After Nick tried the sweet potato pancakes last week, he mentioned that they would make a good muffin. So I found a pumpkin cranberry muffin recipe and substituted pureed sweet potato for the pumpkin and pecans for the cranberries. I also added a little cinnamon. They turned out pretty good, but next time I’ll add a little more cinnamon.
I’m so glad I’ve found some other things to eat for breakfast. I’m not a huge egg lover, but it’s such an easy paleo breakfast and I’m all about making it easy in the morning. My old standby was oatmeal, but that’s not going to work when eating paleo.
I'm proud of myself for trying something new! I'm such a recipe follower, but this time I changed it up a teeny tiny bit and it worked!

Paleo "Ice Cream"
One of my co workers had a birthday this past week which meant cake would be brought to celebrate. I didn't want to sit there with nothing while my friends ate cakes, so I decided I would give the Paleo "Ice Cream" from the CrossFit Katy Nutrition blog a try. I chopped up my bananas, through them in the freezer for a couple of hours, then chopped them up into teeny tiny bits in my Cuisinart. At first it looked like mini Dipping Dots, but the longer I let it chop, the creamier it became. Soon it looked like ice cream!
It still tastes like a banana, but in a totally different package. I made more today, but this time added some frozen strawberries. I can't wait to try it out!

Paleo Chili Cheese Dogs
I love hot dogs, especially grilled hot dogs. I love them even more with mustard, chili, and cheese, but hot dogs are out because of the bun and I’m not one to eat a hot dog without a bun. Fortunately for me I found the perfect recipe while I was checking out a blog I found called Health-Bent. The recipe uses sweet potato skins as the “buns” for hot dogs. I was skeptical at first, but after reading the recipe I saw that it had you making your own spicy chili to go over the dog. I knew then that I had to try it! The combination of spicy and sweet sounded really good! These hot dogs are obviously more work than regular chili cheese dogs with buns and canned chili, but it was worth it. I put three on my plate, but ended up only eating 2 ½. I can’t wait to have them again and now I also have a side for dinner tonight with the sweet potato that I scooped out of the skins! Yea!

Fat Guacamole Devils
Fat Guacamole Devils are hard boiled eggs filled with guacamole and mashed egg yolk. Kind of like deviled eggs, but filled with a guacamole/yolk mixture. The recipe can be found at Mark's Daily Apple.
I cheated a little bit and used premade guacamole I bought at the store. The Wholly Guacamole 100 calorie pack guacamoles are awesome, by the way. I used two hard boiled eggs. I mashed up the egg yolks from the 2 eggs and combined them with 1 pack from the 100 calorie Wholly Guacamole packs.
I tried the yolk/guacamole mix and it was good. I can't wait to have them for snack tomorrow!

Sweet Potato Pancakes
I've finally found a pancake recipe that I actually like! The Sweet Potato Pancakes from Health-Bent are great! Click on the link and just take a look at the picture!
I topped mine with a honey cream cheese topping that made them even yummier! The recipe says icing, but I like to call it a topping and I cut it in half, so I wouldn't have as much. :) Yes, this stays within my goals! :)

Train Right, Eat Right, Live Right Challenge- Days 4, 5, 6, and 7
The last few days have not been as easy as the first few! There have been so, so many temptations out there!
Thursday (Day 4) I was feeling pretty horrible. My stomach was hurting and I wasn't really hungry, but I still craved something sweet. We had a staff meeting after school that day and part of our meeting was to celebrate the fact that we were a recognized school. It hit me during the middle of the day that we were probably going to have cake at the celebration. I didn't know if I could resist. When we walked in and I saw the cake, I was relieved. It was chocolate cake with white and green icing. The icing was the type of icing that was not my favorite and to top it off it was green which was going to make it taste bad anyway! I was pretty relieved.
Unfortunately things did not get easier as the night went on. Nick had a staff meeting at his store so he wasn't going to be home until at least nine which left me to deal with the girlies alone. I figured instead of dealing with Kate flipping out while I made dinner I would just stop and pick something up so I could feed her and get her back in a good mood right away. It didn't work. She wouldn't eat, so she had this fit because she wanted down, but she didn't want her food to be thrown away, but she didn't want to sit in her chair and eat, so basically she didn't know what she wanted to she just cried. Finally after lots of crying she ate. All of the crying and craziness really made me want to eat some chocolate, but I didn't!
Friday (Day 5) I spent most of the day with a headache. Sugar withdrawl maybe? My cravings were pretty crazy. I could've eaten a whole cake! Speaking of cake, when I walked in the lounge for lunch there was the leftover cake sitting there waiting for me to eat, but I didn't because it still looked gross!
Saturday (Day 6) Again, I could've eaten a whole cake. I really wanted to, but I had nothing. That night Nick and I took the girls to the Katy Rice Harvest Festival. Fried twinkies, fried oreos, corn dogs, pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, funnel cakes, ice cream, cotton candy! I had to go to three different booths before I finally found someone that had a sausage on a stick.
Sunday (Day 7) I made the coconut flour pancakes, but of course Maddie didn't like them, so instead of making her something different I just threw some chocolate chips in her batter. I did not eat a single chocolate chip! My mom and I took the girls back to the festival and they were giving away free ice cream! I didn't have any. It helped the Maddie and my mom didn't want any either, so that was good. I craved Coke today. A sugary, sweet Coke, but I didn't have any.
Tonight I'm going out to eat with Nick, but I can't think of any place to go that won't have something that I can't eat. I thought about Outback so I could have steak, but their bread is the best! I thought about the Black Eyed Pea, but they have amazing cornbread. I thought about Spring Creek BBQ, but I'm sure there is sugar in their sauce and I would really want to get baked beans, but I'm trying to stay away from beans. UGH...what to do?!
I hope my cravings calm down soon!

Food Log:
Breakfast- pancakes made using a recipe from one of my CrossFit buddy's blogs, which she got from a book written by Mark Sisson, called the Primal Blueprint Cookbook. I tried a few versions because I'm not a huge coconut lover and I could still taste the coconuty flavor. One of my favorite versions was when I mashed some blueberries and mixed them into the batter, then cooked the pancake. That helped hide the coconut flavor some.
Lunch- chicken on a stick at the Katy Rice Harvest Festival
Dinner- out somewhere with Nick
No workout.

Parsnip Fries
Tonight we had hamburgers and with hamburgers I have to have french fries. I remembered a friend making parsnip fries, so I decided to give it a try. I've only had parsnips once, so I wasn't sure how they would taste, but they turned out super yummy.
I used the website I found here. One recipe I read said to remove the core, but another recipe I read said it wasn't that big of a deal, so I left the core since I was short on time (and I don't know how to remove it).
I liked the smaller pieces better and the ones that were a little more done (almost burnt). The core was a little too woody tasting to me, so next time I'll try to core them some how!

Challenge- Day 3
Another good day, except I almost ate a Sweet Tart without even thinking about it. Nick offered me one, so I took it. I put it in my mouth, closed my mouth, and then it hit me. I yelled out "sugar!" and I quickly spit it out and threw it out the window! Nick thought it was hilarious!
I did have a few moments at the grocery store where I really wanted to grab a piece of cake or check out the bread cart, but I didn't!
So far, so good!

Challenge- Day 2
Day 2 of the challenge was a good day.
I wasn't tempted by anything like I was yesteray. I did have instant mashed potatoes and those aren't okay with the Paleo diet, but I'm still meeting the two main goals I set for myself- no grains, no sugar.
Hopefully my willpower continues!

Challenge- Day 1
Today was Day 1 of the Eat Right, Train Right, Live Right Challenge. It officially started Saturday, but I gave myself Saturday to indulge in a few treats...okay, I actually indulged the entire weekend with pizza, cupcakes, philly cheesesteak, cake, mexican food, and more cake! I was so ready to clean things up today!
I posted before about my biggest challenge being getting lazy and ordering pizza when tired instead of making dinner. Well, tonight I faced another challenge.
Nick is out of town tonight, so it's just me and the girlies. Today we went to the gym right after school, then to the park for a bit. When we got home our neighbors were out so we visited with them for a bit. Once we came in Kate started throwing a fit. Crying, whining, begging for chocolate milk, yogurt, hot dogs, blah blah blah. Even after getting her milk she was still not happy and when she's not happy she gets loud. She doesn't care that I have yuckiness all over my hands from meat or that I'm in the middle of making dinner, she wants what she wants and she wants it now! And if she doesn't get it, she screams, whines, cries. It's so annoying! And this happens just about every night while I make dinner.
I realized tonight when I opened the pantry and saw an unopened bag of chocolate chips, that one way I cope with her craziness in the evenings is to eat something sweet! It just makes me feel better. I thought about opening them for half a second, but resisted. Then I opened the freezer and saw leftover ice cream from Maddie's party and wanted some of that. I also saw some frozen cake that I thought about pulling out, but I resisted. Now I know that when I'm really tired or in a bad mood I want something sweet! Hopefully I can get over that or maybe I'll just stick a few grapes in my mouth and call it good.
My goals for the first 2 weeks of the challenge (10/4-10/17):
1. No grains.
2. No sugar (cake, cookies, donuts, brownies, ice cream, etc.)
3. No milk.
4. Workout 5-6 times a week.
5. Sleep 8 hours a night.
After the first 2 weeks, I plan to give myself a cheat day (10/18) to have some pizza and a cupcake or something like that!
Then back on the wagon for 12 days. I have a cake to make for Halloween and I sure can't bake a cake and not have any!

Yummy Recipe
The other night I made a super duper yummy meal. It was a combination of two recipes I found here (CrossFit Katy Nutrition Blog) and here (Mark's Daily Apple).
I loved the sound of the Paleo Chicken Enchiladas, but I was too thrilled with it going on top of cauliflower rice because I don't have a chopper thingy and I wasn't about to spend my time chopping up cauliflower in to rice sized pieces. I also loved the sound of the Poblano Chicken with Verde Sauce, but I really wanted to combine the two instead of making the Verde Sauce.
I love to get chile rellenos when we eat out at a mexican food restaurant, so I was excited to try and make them for myself.
I made the sauce for the Paleo Enchiladas, then started on the chicken. Instead of boiling the chicken and then shredding it, I just used canned chicken. Then I roasted the poblano peppers until they were black and then pealed the black skin off. I cut open the tops and put a little monterey jack cheese down, then the chicken enchilada mixture, then a little more cheese. I covered them with some sauce and baked them for about 25 minutes.
They were super duper yummy. One of the best meals I've made in a long time, but I'm a huge poblano pepper fan, so that may have something to do with it.
When Nick saw what we were eating, he immediately asked if I would be offended if he didn't eat one. I said no, but then I started thinking about it and yes, I was offeneded! This took me a long time to make! He heard the word pepper and immediatly thought of a bell pepper, which he doesn't like. I finally convinced him that this wasn't going to tasted anything like that, so he gave in and tried one. He actually said it was good!
Unfortunately they were too spicy for the girls, so I had to make something different for them, but that just meant I had leftovers to take to school!

October 2, 2010- Train Right, Eat Right, Live Right Challenge
Today begins CrossFit Katy's Eat Right, Train Right, Live Right Challenge! The next 2 months I will be trying my best to Eat Right, Train Right, and hopefully Live Right! That means no grains, no sugar, no milk, lots of meat, lots of veggies, some fruits, some nuts, and lots of exercise.
We started off our Challenge this morning with a nutrition seminar. 2 of our wonderful trainers talked to us about the benefits of cutting grains, sugar, and dairy. I was pretty well informed going into the seminar, but I still learned a lot. Especially how to tell people why those things are bad for you (I'll post more about that later)!
After the talk we had our challenge workout which we will repeat in 2 months to see how we improve.
The WOD was
500 meter row
40 air squats
30 anchored sit ups
20 lateral burpees
30 anchored sit ups
40 air squats
500 meter row
Time- 11:00
Tonight I'm going to take a look at the things we have in our pantry and I'm going to get rid of some things that I don't think we need. Tomorrow I'm going to plan out our meals for the week and then go grocery shopping for lots of healthy foods!
I knew the challenge was coming up so last week I forced myself to get back in the routine of making dinner every night, and I did until last night. Last night we had pizza since I knew I would be starting the challenge soon and today I had cupcakes. Some of the best cupcakes ever, but that's a post in itself!
I'm fortunate that the train right part is not a challenge for me because I LOVE Crossfit and working out in general. I'm pretty set there. My biggest concern is the Eat Right. I have my days when I'm tired and I get lazy so we order a super yummy pizza from Palio's. That's going to be the hardest thing for me right there.
I'm actually looking forward to eating healthy and feeling the differences healthy food makes! I'm about cupcaked out, so it's perfect timing.
Wish me luck!

I liked this workout! :)

Run/walk around lakes at CR Beach Club with Maddie.
Ran 5 minutes/walked 1 around big lake.
Ran from each exercise station at little lake.
Total time- 19:51
About 1.64 miles
Maddie did a great job! I think she could run faster if I let her, but since we're just beginning I'm making her take it slow. And slow is good for me with my hamstring/knee problem!

My goal this summer was to get pull ups and I did. I've gotten them the last three times I've gone to CrossFit, so I know it's not a fluke. Now I can stop tearing my hands up to prove it to myself!

What an amazing weekend. I spent most of it glued to my iPod or computer watching the 2010 CrossFit games go down. These people are amazingly strong and fast and have so much heart! If you have a chance you should take a look at the archives from the games and check out some of the things they did! It was awesome and inspiring!

WOD
Fight Gone Bad
3 rounds with 1 minute rest between each round,
One round consists of
1 minute push press- 55 lbs.
1 minute rower for calories
1 minute wall ball- 14 lb. ball
1 minute sumo deadlift high pull- 55 lbs.
1 minute box jumps- 20 inch box
TOTAL- 201
Total is the total number of reps performed. I started at wall ball and finished on the rower. My shoulders, back, and legs were still pretty sore and tired from Saturday, so I think my total would've been higher if I was 100%.
Last time I did this in November I got around 225, but that was with step ups on the 20 inch box instead of jumps. Today I jumped up, stepped down.
My goal was to crack 200 and I did, so I can't be too disappointed!

July 10, 2010- CrossFit Houston Girls Only Challenge
Yesterday was CrossFit Houston Girls Only Challenge and my first ever CrossFit Competition! I was so excited and so nervous at the same time! In this challenge all competitors take part in the first two workouts (WODs) and the girls with the fastest times (the top 50%) moved on to WOD 3. After WOD 3, the top 10 girls moved on to WOD 4. My goal was to make it to WOD 3 and to not have any regrets about how I did, but I ended up making it all the way to WOD 4! Here is a group picture of all the competitors. I'm in the top left corner with the group of purple shirts (I'm on the right in the group of purple shirts). There were 2 divisions, standard and scaled. I was in the scaled division because I can't lift the heavy weights like the girls in the standard division. I had no idea how I would do compared to the other girls and I had no clue what to expect.
I was in the last heat for the first WOD. There was an 11 minute cut off time and after watching everyone go before me, I was pretty sure I'd make the cutoff time. In this WOD there were 10 of us going at a time. My biggest worry in this WOD was picking up the sandbag off the ground.
WOD #1 (11 minute cutoff):
350 meter Row
100 meter 70 pound Sandbag Carry
100 meter run
50 meter Uneven Farmers Walk with a 35 pound kettlebell and a 30 pound dumbell100 meter Run
100 meter 70 pound Sandbag Carry
350 meter Row
Time was around 8:08
I was hoping to keep my row at around a 1:57 pace (1:57/500 meters) but with the adrenaline flowing I was going at about a 1:45 pace. I knew I wouldn't last at that pace, so I forced myself to slow down. I kept an eye on everyone around me to see what they were averaging, so I didn't get too far behind.
In the heats before me it seemed like everyone was finishing the row around the same time and that's what happened in my heat. We all headed to grab the sandbags and once I got a good grip I headed out. We could only bear hug the sand bags, so if you gripped it too high, it would start to slide out of your arms. You had to grip the bag low so if it slipped at all you still had room to hold it. I was behind one other girl at the start of the sand bag carry, but I caught up to her and passed her. Then I stayed ahead of everyone the rest of the way.
After taking the sandbag the first 100 meters, we had to run back 100 meters the other way and grab a 35 lb. kettlebell and a 30 lb. dumbell for the farmer's carry. I jogged most of the way down with them, but walked a little ways before the turn around to rest a bit, then I jogged back to the start.

I put the kettlebell and dumbell down then ran the 100 meters back out to grab my sandbag. I picked it up and carried it back to the rowers.

I had to stop once to fix my grip, but I didn't stop too long.

I had to stop once to fix my grip, but I didn't stop too long.
The hardest part of that WOD was the row at the end. I was tired from pushing myself and that row felt like it lasted forever!

My time ended up being around 8 minutes and 8 seconds. It was awesome!
I'm not sure of my time for the shuttle run.

After WOD 2 we had an hour long lunch break. They totaled the times of the first 2 WODS and posted the names of the people that would be going on to WOD 3. The top 50% would move on to WOD 3. I was pretty sure my name would be on the board since I finished first in both my heats and it was. Out of the 5 girls from CrossFit Katy in the scaled division, I was the only one going on to WOD 3.
At 11:45 WOD 3 was announced and this is what it was...
WOD #3:
21-15-9
Slam Ball with 15 pound ball
Box Jumps Over 17 inch box
Russian Kettlebell Swings - 35 pounds
WOD 2 was a suicide run. You started at the first cone, ran to and around the second cone then back to the first. Then you ran to and around the third cone, then back to the first cone and so on. I think there were 4 cones to run to. My biggest fear with this WOD was running too fast/hurting my knee and slipping in the grass going around the cones. There were 6 of us in our heat. I started off at a good pace, not too fast and not too slow. We were all together after going around the second cone, but then the girl next to me and I started to pull ahead of everyone. I stayed with the girl next to me until the last sprint to the end. We turned that last cone and I took off and she didn't, so I finished first in my heat again!

So basically with this WOD we do 21 slam ball, 21 box jump over, 21 kb swings, then 15 of each, then 9 of each.
The workout started and I was moving pretty fast on the slam ball. I slowed down a bit thinking I needed to save something for the box jump overs. I got to those jumps and boy were they tough! I got to the fourth one and I was breathing hard! I knew I just had to keep going and that I could recover a bit at the kettlebell swings.
I was really unsure how the box jump overs were going to go. We've never done box jump overs, so I was kind of worried. I recently started jumping on a 20 inch box during our workouts, so I was hoping the 17 inch box would look small and I would have no problem getting over it. I knew I could do the 35 pound kettlebell swings because I swing a 35 pound kettlebell during our workouts on a regular basis now. The slam ball was a little heavier than I was used to, I normally use a 12 lb. ball and this one was 15, but I knew I could do it. Before each heat started we got to practice each movement to make sure we could do it. I got a few box jump overs in and felt pretty confident about the whole workout.

I got to the fourth one and I was breathing hard! I knew I just had to keep going and that I could recover a bit at the kettlebell swings.
I finished the 21 slam ball first and stayed ahead of everyone else the whole time. I wonder if I would've gone a bit faster had there been someone close to beating me. I tried to go as hard as I could, but I think I took a breather or two because I knew I was ahead. My time ended up being around 5 minutes 50 seconds, I think.
After WOD 3 they took a few minutes to set up WOD 4 and to post the names that were going on to WOD 4 (the top 10 girls in from WOD 3). I knew I would go on since I won my heat, but I was really unsure about the next WOD because I saw them setting up deadlifts and I'm not a great deadlifter! They announced the WOD and the scaled weight for the deadlift was 135. I've never done 135 in a workout before so I was really worried (I've done 125 once, but mostly 115). I was also really worried about the tire drag and pull. The weight for the standard division was 95 lbs. The scaled weight was only 10 pounds less at 85. I watched the girls in the standard division struggle with 95 and right then I knew I was done. If the standard girls were struggling to pull 95 pounds and their squat maxes are like WAY over 100 I knew I was going to have a super hard time pulling 85 when my squat max is a measly 100.
WOD #4:
4 Rounds of
5 DeadLifts- 135 pounds
30 meter Tire Drag-out 85 pounds
7 Single Dumbell Push Press Right arm, then Left arm 30 pound dumbell
30 meter Tire Pull-back 85 pounds
When the WOD started I knew I was going to struggle. The deadlifts were heavy and the tire was REALLY heavy.

The first trip down wasn't so bad and the trip back wasn't either. The second round came and the deadlifts were even heavier and the tire was harder to pull.

The first trip down wasn't so bad and the trip back wasn't either. The second round came and the deadlifts were even heavier and the tire was harder to pull.

The push press, 30 lbs., 7 on one arm, then 7 on the other started to really get tough by the 3rd round. I could only get 3 before I had to put the weight down and then get the last 4. The last round I could only manage 2 at a time on my left arm because it's a lot weaker than my right.

I have never felt that much burning in my quads ever. Each time I stopped pulling that tire it was because my legs were on fire and they weren't working. It was the hardest thing I've ever done. Ironman was tough, but there wasn't a point in the Ironman where my body was just not working.

On the 2nd trip back with the tire I thought about how bad I wanted to quit. I've never wanted to quit anything more than I wanted to quit dragging that tire right then. I knew there was no way I was going to win because I was struggling and hurting so bad. I really wanted to cry at that point, but I kept going. I heard all the people from CrossFit Katy yelling for me so I kept on going. At that point all I was trying to do was finish.

The most frustrating part about the whole thing was that there were girls in the scaled division that I don't think should've been in scaled. To me the SCALED division is for people who can't lift the heavy weights. I watched the scaled heats before mine and there were a few girls that were deadlifting 135 like it was nothing. It looked like they could've done it with one arm. Before the workout started the guy that set it up said it was supposed to be a heavy deadlift. This wasn't heavy for these chicks and they ended up winning first, second, and third. The final standings were determined by your total times for WODs 3 and 4 and they killed me on those deadlifts and tire pull.
They should be posting the times for all participants through all WODs soon, and I'm curious to see how I did in the first 3 WODs compared to everyone else. Overall it was an awesome experience. I love pushing myself as hard as I can to see what I can do even when it hurts as bad as it did in WOD 4. I can't wait for August for CrossFit Katy's Bring the Heat Summer Challenge!

Warm up with shoulder work with PVC
WOD
5 rounds of
40 double unders
30 box jumps- 20 inch box, jump up/step down
20 kb swings- 35 lbs.
Time- 24:59 (Rx'd)
Fastest Rx'd time of the day so far. I got 25 double unders in a row the first round, but the air was sucked right out of me! They are so tiring. Double unders are like sprinting. Box jumps after double unders were tough. My legs felt like jello the last round. The kb swings were tough on my back after deadlifts yesterday. When I kept my core tight it helped my back.

CrossFit Houston's Women's Challenge
I'm competing in my first CrossFit competition July 10! I'm in the scaled division, so the weights will be lighter and more doable for me. I can't lift the heavy stuff like the girls in the standard division. I'm super excited and can't wait to compete in something again!

Warm up with 3 rounds of 10 air squats, 10 sit ups, 10 push ups on knees
Front Squat
3-3-3-3
75, 85, 95, ran out of time on last set
Felt good. I think I would've gotten 100 at least once. 100 is my 1 rep max, so I'm getting stronger!
WOD
Fight Gone Missing
3 rounds of
1 minute push press- 65 lbs.
1 minute rest
1 minute wall ball- 14 lbs.
1 minute rest
1 minute box jumps- 20 inch box all jumps
Total- 175 (Rx)
Push press was tough! I only got 12, 11, and 10 I think. That's what kept my total down. Tried 100 pound squat after workout, but didn't get it. Legs too tired from all the wall ball and box jumps.
Good workout.

Battle Buddy 57- Perserverance Through Hardship Fundraiser for Texas Children's Hospital
WOD done with my partner Monique
WOD done with my partner Monique
57 box jumps- 20 inch box
57 push press- 55 lbs.
57 sit ups- 12 lb. dynomax ball
57 lunges- 20 lb. dumbell
57 pushups- chest to ground on toes, worming allowed
57 KB swings- 30 lbs.
57 squats- 20 lb. dumbell
57 burpees
Time- 14:50 (really it was 14:47, but she didn't hear me yell time)
This WOD/fundraiser was so much fun. I really had a good time and did some things I don't normally do in workouts. Like jumping up and down on a 20 inch box. Normally I jump up and step down when doing box jumps and most of the time I use a 16 inch box. Burpees went well, too. Normally when I go down for burpees I step out, but this time I jumped out and in. The lunges were surprisingly easy, so were the situps and push ups. I did have a hard time with the push press and squats, but I am weak, so that's to be expected. Good thing my partner was stronger than me, so she was able to pick up the slack there. I'm weak, but there were some girls out there weaker than me. It's sad to say it, but I was glad to see that!

Cake Overdose
Ugh...that's all I can say about cake right now. I know what cake, and sugar in general do to me, so why do I keep eating it? Because it's so YUMMY! Moderation, moderation, moderation is what I try to tell myself, but that doesn't work for me. If it's in my house I will eat it any time I think about it or walk into the kitchen, which is basically ALL the time. You would think I could control myself, but I just can't!
Before Kate's birthday I tested outa new flavor- graham cracker cake with chocolate and marshmallow filling. I wanted to try it out before her actual birthday to see if it was a flavor I wanted to go with. The filling ended up being too runny and the caked didn't really taste like graham cracker, so I decided to go with something else. Even thought it didn't taste like graham cracker, it still tasted good, so I ate and ate and ate until I made myself sick! I literally made myself sick. The next day my stomach hurt and I had to stay close to the bathroom.
Fast forward a couple of weeks to the days after Kaitlin's birthday. I ended up making a chocolate chip cookie flavored cake that was super yummy and a chocolate cake with cookies and cream filling. Not only are there cake scraps from leveling the cake, but I always make too much cake for our little parties and have tons left over. What do I do? Eat it...a lot of it...for breakfast one day...for dinner another day. I ate a ton of cake and again made myself sick. This time it wasn't just a few hours. It lasted 2 days! 2 long, miserable days.
The sad part, if you put a cake in front of my right now and I knew it was super yummy like the ones I make, I would totally eat a piece. And if you left it at my house, I would probably have another piece today and another tomorrow and another and another until I got sick again. What's wrong with me?!

Double unders are always tough. I can do them easily, but they are so tiring. It's like sprinting compared to just jogging. Singles are so much easier...you don't get near as winded.

I don't know why I thought I could possibly keep up with 2 blogs when I can hardly keep up with one! I haven't stopped working out, I just haven't been blogging about it! I do like this blog though because when I want to see the last time I did a certain workout or exercise, I can just click on it and it shows all of them, so I'm going to update it with all the workouts I've done since my last post. Here it goes...

Snack- banana, raisins, walnuts
Lunch- My Fit Foods- Denyse's Killuh Chili
Snack- raisins and walnuts
Dinner- Palio's pepperoni and jalapeno pizza
Workout:
CrossFit-
Warm up with 2 rounds of 15 air squats and 15 sit ups
WOD
4 rounds of
50 double unders (jump rope goes under you twice in one jump)
21 kettlebell swings- 25 lbs.
21 wall ball- 10 lbs.
1 lap
Time- 30:??
That was a super tough workout cardio wise. The double unders are so tiring! I could manage 10 or so in a row the first rounds, but the last rounds I could only manage 5 in a row before I had to stop and catch my breath. WOW!

Food Log:
Breakfast 1- glass of almond milk with sugar free Nesquik
Breakfast 2- scrambled egg with 3 tablespoons of salsa, 2 slices of bacon
Snack- grapes
Lunch- My Fit Foods- Charbroiled Chicken Delight (medium)
Snack- baby carrots
Dinner- Los Cucos- Chicken Ixtapa- chicken breast covered with tomatoes, onions, cheese and grilled veggies instead of rice and beans, 1.5 flour tortillas, chips, salsa
I knew that I wouldn't be able to resist the chips and salsa, but I did make a good choice with the veggies instead of rice and beans. I also got a chicken breast instead of enchiladas or a chile relleno or a chimichanga. I should've asked the waiter to keep the flour tortillas, but I love them and they were yummy!
No workout today.

Food Log:
Breakfast 1- almond milk with sugar free Nesquik
Breakfast 2- 3 slices of bacon and grapes
Snack- raisins and walnuts
Lunch- My Fit Foods- Ginger Chicken Delight- medium
Snack- carrots, grapes, celery, banana
Dinner- Chicken Posole
I stayed for a baby shower at school and resisted the sandwiches, chips and queso, and the CAKE! I ate the veggies instead.
Not sure how I feel about resisting all that stuff. Part of me thinks I'm being silly and should've just enjoyed myself, but the other part of me wants to prove to myself that I can resist it. I told myself no rice, bread, pasta, or sugar this week until Friday when I have a cupcake to celebrate my birthday (yes I know my birthday is Saturday, but we'll celebrate at school on Friday). I was afraid that if I gave in then I'd go on a cake binge, but that's silly because I don't have any cake at home, so I should've just had a piece! Ugh...
Workout:
CrossFit-
warm up with lunges, frankensteins
WOD-
AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) in 30 minutes of
5 deadlifts- 115 lbs.
13 push ups on knees
9 box jumps- 16 inch box (jump up, step down)
12 rounds + 2 deadlifts
Yowza! That was TOUGH. I was dripping with sweat the whole time. Glad to be done with it, but even happier I did it!
